VBS Lesson #2 God’s love for me is strong

Our VBS fun is coming to a close. Here are the last few things we did at the craft station.

WELCOME: As children come in ask: Who can name some strong sea creatures? Some of those creatures have to be able to push themselves through the water all day and night. They must be very strong to be able to do that. God also created some strong birds and land animals.

PRAYER: Dear God, Thank you that you have given us strong minds and unique, strong bodies. Help us to remember that You created us and have given us Your strength. Amen

INTRO: Hold up the Bible and say; this is the Bible. In it are instructions and true stories to remind us of how, when we partner with God, we can use God’s strength to do amazing things. There are lots of stories in this book about people who worked with God. Can you think of a few?

In the ocean there are a few things that are also strong. Is a whale strong? How about seaweed or coral? How about a small clam? Clams may not look very strong, but they are. Clams can have a pearl inside of them. They like to clamp shut so that no one can take that pearl. You have to be pretty strong to open a clam.

The Bible tells us that David didn’t look very strong when he went to fight Goliath. In fact, when he tried on the king’s armor, it didn’t fit. But, David did not just use his strength. He partnered with God and defeated the giant.

CRAFT #1: OCEAN SENSORY BOTTLES WITH SEA CREATURES: This is a fun craft filled with lots to look at. As they look for the sea creatures inside, they will recall how you talked about strength. This is also a good time to talk about how the oil and water may separate, but nothing can separate us from His love.

CRAFT #2:COMPASS FIZZY PAINT. This craft is an opportunity to talk about birds and how they never get lost. (Do we think maybe they carry a compass in there?) Good thing we have God’s book of directions for those times that we are feeling lost.

Vinegar, pipette, baking soda, paint, cups (one for vinegar and the other for the paint mixture), paper plate or water color paper, paintbrush. Mix paint and baking soda together; 1:2. Paint with that mixture. Add 1 drop at a time of vinegar.

TAKEAWAYS: When we walk with God and read His book of directions, He gives us an invisible strength.

Let me know if you try any of these ☺️.

VBS Lesson #1 Can God’s love find me?

We had a great week at VBS! This time, I was in charge of crafts. Here are a few fun things we did.

WELCOME: As children come in ask; have you ever had a day so bad that you wanted to get in a boat and sail to a beach somewhere far away? Do you think God’s love could still find you there? What about in a boat? A school bus? Your room?

PRAYER: Thank you God, for reminding us that we can’t outrun, outswim, or outsail Your love. Help us to draw closer to You through our time together. Amen

INTRO: Hold up the Bible. Say: This is the Bible. In it are instructions and true stories to remind us of how He loves and cares for us. There are a few people in this book who tried to outrun, or outsail, God’s love and directions. One of them was Jonah. He tried very hard to escape God. But, God’s love found him at the bottom of the ocean. God had a fish scoop him up to keep him safe. What do you think it was like in the belly of a big fish?

CRAFT #1: SENSORY BAG. This craft will remind everyone about how no one is too far from God’s love. By the end of the craft, you’ll have a squishy reminder of what it might have been like in the belly of a big fish.

Glitter, ziplock bag, ocean creatures, sequins, food coloring, hair gel.
No matter how many times I do this craft, it does not last long and eventually leaks, so do not let children use this unattended 😬

CRAFT #2: SHAVING CREAM OCEAN. This craft will reinforce the idea that the ocean is deep and wide, but still not as big as God’s love for you.

TAKEAWAYS: No matter where you are, you are never far from God’s love.

Let me know if you try any of these AND if you found a way to keep that bag from leaking🤣.
